Entry for June 25, 2007
Well, it's been a challenging few weeks for portraits - but that's the great thing about doing this, you never know what you're going to get next. First, a head and shoulders portrait of a customer's laborador, with four small full body poses around the edge. It's always hard to work in small detail with pastel, but with the full close-up of the dog's face in the middle, the small poses worked really well. Next, a human! I've not done many of those yet. And this one was to be accompanied by half a pint of Guinness, his usual tipple at the pub. There was some confusion over whether this meant a half drunk full pint of Guiness, or a half pint glass of Guiness (are you with me?) but it's the latter. Still working on this one, and my husband's looking forward to suppling me with several pints of Guiness to draw... The other picture I've been working on recently is a large portrait of two black laboradors on the beach, with their shadows stretching across the sand. I don't usually do backgrounds, so this was a real challenge. I'll put a copy on the website soon. I was really pleased with the result. 2007-06-25 10:07:44 GMT

I enjoyed reading your blog and would like to know how the Guinness Portrait came out. I am also keen to visit Harpenden Library and see the staff!

It came out really well, thank you! In fact, maybe I should start a new line: portraits of people's favourite pints!

I can assure you that the staff at Harpenden Library are all, in fact, normal. They are also all human. --Louise |
